d3kOS v0.9.9.5 is now live, and it’s easily the biggest jump forward since the 0.9.9.2 milestone. This release delivers five major headline capabilities, a redesigned AIS subsystem, a full first‑boot overhaul, and more than 150 stability and reliability fixes. It’s been lab‑validated on Raspberry Pi 4, and Pi 5 — and it shows. Release d3kOS v0.9.9.5 — OTA Self-Update · Helm Voice AI · SafeHelm · USB-CAN-A · SkipperDon/d3kOS

Five Headline Capabilities

1. Over‑the‑Air Updates (OTA)

Your Pi now keeps itself current without SD card swaps or SSH sessions. Updates pushed from AtMyBoat.com appear as an amber “Update Available” pill, and installation happens in the background with full‑state signed packages, ECDSA verification, SHA‑256 integrity checks, and automatic rollback.

2. Helm Voice AI (D‑VA‑01)

A fully integrated voice assistant right in the browser. Say “Helm,” ask a question, and get spoken answers. Speech‑to‑text runs on‑device, Piper handles TTS, and Gemini provides language intelligence with RAG from your boat and engine manuals. Works offline when needed.

3. SafeHelm Collision Avoidance Advisory

AIS‑based CPA/TCPA calculations using COLREGs 13, 14, 15, and 18. Three alert tiers, stand‑on escalation, and advisory‑only behavior at low speed to avoid false alarms. Alerts appear across all dashboards and integrate with the voice arbiter.

4. USB‑CAN‑A NMEA 2000 Support

Automatic CAN adapter detection on boot. Whether you’re using PiCAN‑M or USB‑CAN‑A, the system brings up can0 at 250 kbps with no manual configuration. Engine, GPS, and AIS data flow straight into Signal K.

5. AIS Subsystem Redesign

ais‑catcher replaces rtl_ais for dramatically more reliable decoding. UDP delivery to Signal K, community telemetry disabled by default, and hotplug support for RTL‑SDR. AIS now works from first boot, and targets appear cleanly in AvNav.

New Features

SignalK Forward Watch v0.2.5

Persistent alarms across detection cycles, auto‑clear logic, suppression below 1.0 kn, and improved geodesy. Sea trials show moored false alarms dropping from 97 to zero.

Marine Vision Enhancements

3D Surround View support, a new view‑mode selector, and stable 30 FPS performance on Pi 4.

SafeHelm Global Persistent Widget

A unified alert pill across all six dashboard pages with AODA‑compliant sizing and automatic reappearance on new alerts.

Vessel Setup Wizard (HCD‑8)

A complete nine‑step onboarding flow with vessel details, GPS/AIS provider selection, NMEA 2000 adapter choice, Signal K host, and AtMyBoat.com registration.

Boat Log Auto‑Capture

Engine data is now captured server‑side automatically — no need to keep the Boat Log page open.

Timezone Auto‑Detection

Automatic timezone selection on first boot with fallback services.

AI Self‑Tuning

Gemini API key persistence and RAG improvements using boat and engine manuals.

First‑Boot Reliability Overhaul

This release includes a complete rebuild of the first‑boot experience:

  • Clone identity regeneration

  • Mandatory password change before wizard

  • Five OTA migrations applied automatically

  • Corrected kiosk routing

  • Proper Wayland environment variables

  • Fixed Plymouth splash

  • Regenerated SSH keys

  • Full sanitize script for fresh images

150+ Bug Fixes

This release resolves issues across the entire stack:

  • Anchor Watch endpoint corrected

  • Status bar font sizes fixed

  • AIS targets now appear reliably in AvNav

  • Camera stream manager made non‑blocking

  • Voice AI crash‑loops resolved

  • OTA pill logic corrected

  • CAN adapter detection added

  • Registration flow stabilized

  • Setup Wizard validation fixes

  • Security hardening across APIs and admin flows

Every subsystem — dashboard, services, AIS, OTA, registration, first‑boot, voice, and NMEA 2000 — received targeted fixes.
