I know — five blogs in less than a week. Even I had to laugh at how far down the rabbit hole I’ve gone. But this update absolutely earns its place, because the security cleanup I talked about earlier didn’t just hit my websites… it rolled straight into d3kOS.

And out of that came version 0.9.9.4.1. Then AI went rogue on me. Then we fixed it. And now we’re at v0.9.9.4.2 — the version where everything finally behaves.

The Chicken‑and‑Egg Problem (Registration Edition)

Here’s what happened.

The latest download of d3kOS changed how registration and integration with AtMyBoat.com works. But AtMyBoat.com also needed to change how it handles registration based on the new d3kOS download.

So which came first? The chicken? The egg? The registration system? The AI? Honestly, at one point I think the AI thought it came first.

The result: I locked security down so tightly that the AtMyBoat.com mobile app couldn’t link to d3kOS anymore. Yes — I secured it so well that even I couldn’t get in.

But with v0.9.9.4.2, everything is aligned, tested, and working again.

If you’re running an older version, the integration simply won’t function — so updating is the key to unlocking the features you’ve been waiting for.

And with over 101 bug fixes, who knew AI could have this many bugs? This is now a real, working prototype, not just a concept with wires and hope.

Marching Toward Version 1.0

I’m getting closer to the big v1.0 release, but before I hit that milestone, I want to add a few features that make d3kOS truly unique — something that stands apart from OpenPlotter, Garmin, Lowrance, and the usual chart plotter crowd.

Here’s the fun part.

On the main panel, I’m working on a toggle that switches between:

  • AvNav chart plotter, and

  • A Tesla‑style 3D view of your boat, showing obstacles in front and around you.

Most chart plotters work from the water downward — depth, fish, bottom structure. d3kOS works from the water upward — people, logs, debris, kayakers (they’re everywhere), boats, ships, icebergs, floating junk, you name it.

This new collision‑avoidance view is coming in v0.9.9.5, and it’s going to change how you see your surroundings.

You’ll still have:

  • OpenCPN

  • AvNav

  • Weather Radar

  • Marine Vision

  • Boat Log

  • AI Assistant

  • Engine Dashboard

  • Helm Assist

  • Initial Setup Wizard

  • Document Upload (teach the AI your boat)

  • Anchor Watch

  • User Manual

  • Self‑analysis and self‑healing tools

All updated. All improved. All working.

A Little Backstory While We’re Here

This whole thing started because I wanted to make a small improvement to OpenPlotter. Just a tiny enhancement.

And then — as usual — it evolved. It grew legs. It became d3kOS.

Between bad weather, fixing boat issues, replacing batteries the marina forgot to pull, dealing with a leaking water pump filter (yes, my boat was sinking on land), and fighting off 65,000 spam registrations on my website… somehow this project kept moving forward.

And now it’s becoming something genuinely new.

What’s Next

Collision avoidance. Smarter helm intelligence. A cleaner, tighter integration with AtMyBoat.com. And a main viewer that lets you choose between classic navigation and a futuristic 3D situational awareness display.

This is the direction d3kOS is heading — and I think it’s going to help a lot of boaters stay safer on the water.

Especially with logs. People. Animals. Boats. Ships. Icebergs. Floating debris. And yes… kayakers. They multiply like rabbits.

Stay tuned — version 0.9.9.5 is already in the works.
