This is a submission for the DEV Weekend Challenge: Community
The Community
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is one of Nigeria's most populated institutions. Every year, thousands of students face the daunting task of finding safe and affordable off-campus housing. The community is often plagued by unreliable agents, lack of transparency in pricing, and the difficulty of finding "squatting" or shared-room options. I built this for students who need a central, verified hub to secure their living space without the fear of being scammed. As a student of the University i saw tgis hurdle and decided to profer this solution
What I Built
I developed a web application ;a dedicated housing portal—specifically for UNILAG students. The app allows users to:
Browse Verified Listings: Access over verified off-campus housing and squatting options.
One-Time Access Model: Instead of recurring agent fees, students pay a small one-time fee (₦5,000) for access, ensuring the platform remains sustainable and the listings high-quality.
24/7 Support: A dedicated support system to help students navigate their search and verify details.
Demo
You can access the web app here: UNILAGHUB
Code
How I Built It
To ensure the app was fast and responsive for mobile-first student users, I used the following stack:
Frontend: Next.js 14 (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
Backend: Supabase (Auth & PostgreSQL)
Payments: Paystack API
Deployment: Vercel (recommended)
