ChatGPT Work Is Here: OpenAI's Agentic Super App Just Changed the Workplace Forever

ChatGPT Work AI Agent

OpenAI just dropped its biggest product announcement since ChatGPT itself launched. ChatGPT Work — an AI agent with built-in Codex — went live on July 9, 2026, and it's already being called the first true "AI super app" for the workplace.

What Is ChatGPT Work?

ChatGPT Work isn't just a chatbot that answers questions. It's an autonomous agent that can plan, execute, and iterate on complex multi-step projects across your apps, files, and the web. Think of it as having a full-time employee who lives inside your stack.

"ChatGPT Work can take action across your apps and files, stay with a project for hours if needed, and turn a goal into finished work," — OpenAI.

What Can It Do?

The agent links directly to Google Drive, Slack, Salesforce, Notion, email, and more. Give it a goal — "create a Q3 marketing plan with a slide deck, a landing page, and a Slack brief" — and it:

  1. Researches the web and your internal docs
  2. Drafts documents, decks, and presentations
  3. Builds code and websites via Codex
  4. Coordinates with your team by drafting messages
  5. Iterates based on feedback

Over 5 million people already use Codex weekly, and now it's fully embedded in the ChatGPT experience.

The GPT-5.6 Connection

ChatGPT Work runs on GPT-5.6 (Sol/Terra/Luna), OpenAI's new three-tier model family that went public the same day. Sol handles the heavy lifting — long-horizon reasoning, complex code generation, and maintaining context across hours-long sessions.

Why This Matters

This is OpenAI's shot at becoming the default OS for knowledge work. Microsoft, Google, and Anthropic all have agent products, but ChatGPT Work's advantage is simplicity — it works across web, desktop, and mobile out of the box, with no setup beyond connecting your apps.

The agent era isn't coming. It's already at your desk.

What do you think — will ChatGPT Work replace the way you work, or is it just a fancy copilot? Drop your thoughts below.
