Ever set a perfect photo as your WhatsApp profile picture, only to find that WhatsApp chopped off half your face?
Or spent 10 minutes trying to make a sticker, only to get the dreaded "file too large" error?
Yeah. Me too. That's why I built WaSize.
The Problem Everyone Ignores
WhatsApp has very specific requirements for images, but it never tells you what they are. It just... crops. Or compresses. Or rejects.
Here's what most people don't know:
- Profile pictures need to be square — and WhatsApp displays them in a circle, so the corners get cut off
- Status images should be 1080 × 1920 (vertical), or they'll have ugly black bars or get cropped
- Stickers must be exactly 512 × 512 pixels AND under 100 KB — miss either requirement and they won't work
- Group icons are also shown as circles, just like DPs
- Channel covers need a wide 3:1 ratio or they look stretched
Most people just... accept the bad crop. Or they open Photoshop (if they even have it), figure out the exact pixel dimensions, resize, export, check file size, re-export...
That's way too much work for something this simple.
What WaSize Actually Does
WaSize is a free online tool that resizes your images specifically for WhatsApp. You don't need to remember any pixel dimensions. Just:
- Drop your image (or click to choose one)
- Pick a preset — DP, Status, Sticker, Group Icon, Channel Cover, etc.
- Adjust if needed — drag to reposition, zoom in/out, rotate
- Download — done ✅
That's it. The whole process takes about 10 seconds.
Here's what makes it different from random "image resizer" tools:
🔵 Built specifically for WhatsApp
Every preset matches a WhatsApp image type. You don't need to Google "what size is a WhatsApp DP" — just click the button.
| Preset | Size | What It's For |
|---|---|---|
| DP | 640 × 640 | Profile picture |
| HQ DP | 800 × 800 | Sharper profile picture |
| Status | 1080 × 1920 | Full-screen vertical Status |
| Sticker | 512 × 512 | WhatsApp sticker (auto WebP + under 100 KB) |
| Group Icon | 640 × 640 | Group chat icon |
| Channel Cover | 1080 × 360 | Channel banner |
| Catalog | 1080 × 1080 | Business catalog product image |
| Wallpaper | 1080 × 2400 | Chat background |
⭕ Circle preview for DPs
WhatsApp shows your DP as a circle, but stores it as a square. WaSize shows you the circle overlay so you can see exactly what will be visible BEFORE you download. No more surprise face-crops.
📸 Full photo mode (No Crop)
Want to use a landscape photo as a square DP without losing the sides? Switch to "No Crop" mode. WaSize fits your entire photo inside the square and fills the empty space with a beautiful blurred version of your own image. It looks amazing.
🎯 Safe area for Status
WhatsApp puts the time, battery, and "Reply" button on top of your Status image. WaSize shows you exactly where those bars will cover, so you can keep important text and faces in the safe zone.
📦 Smart compression
Need your sticker under 100 KB? Just set a target file size. WaSize automatically finds the highest quality that fits within your limit. No guesswork.
🎨 Export options
Choose between JPG, PNG, or WebP. Adjust quality from 10% to 100%. Set a custom file name. All the controls are there if you want them, hidden if you don't.
The Privacy Part (This Is Important)
Here's the thing that sets WaSize apart from every other image resizer online:
Your photos never leave your device.
This isn't a marketing line. WaSize processes everything inside your browser. Your image is never uploaded to any server. There's no account to create, no data to store, no privacy policy to worry about.
Don't believe me? Open the tool, load a photo, and check the Network tab in your browser's DevTools. You won't see a single upload request.
Why does this matter? Because the photos you're resizing are personal — your face, your family, your moments. They shouldn't need to travel to some random server in another country just to become a 640 × 640 square.
Close the tab, and the image is gone. Forever. Because it was never anywhere else.
Every WhatsApp Image Size You Need (Bookmark This)
I spent way too long researching these, so you don't have to:
Main Sizes
| Type | Recommended Size | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Profile / DP | 640 × 640 | 1:1 (square) |
| High Quality DP | 800 × 800 | 1:1 |
| Status | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 (vertical) |
| Group Icon | 640 × 640 | 1:1 |
| Sticker | 512 × 512 | 1:1 |
| Catalog | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 |
| Channel Icon | 640 × 640 | 1:1 |
| Channel Cover | 1080 × 360 | 3:1 (wide) |
Extra Sizes
| Type | Size | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Sticker Tray Icon | 96 × 96 | 1:1 |
| Community Icon | 640 × 640 | 1:1 |
| Status (Square) | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 |
| Status (Landscape) | 1920 × 1080 | 16:9 |
| Link Preview Image | 1200 × 630 | ~1.9:1 |
| Chat Photo | Up to 1600 px (longest side) | Original |
| HD Chat Photo | Up to 4096 px (longest side) | Original |
| Chat Wallpaper | 1080 × 2400 | 9:20 |
Important: Most of these sizes are practical recommendations, not hard requirements from WhatsApp. The exceptions are stickers (512 × 512, under 100 KB) — those ARE official WhatsApp requirements.
Common WhatsApp Image Problems (And How WaSize Fixes Them)
"My DP keeps getting cropped!"
WhatsApp crops non-square images to make them square, then displays them in a circle. Fix: Use the DP preset + circle preview to position your face in the center.
"I want my full photo as my DP without cutting anything"
Fix: Use the DP preset → switch to "No Crop" → your full photo fits inside the square with a blurred background filling the edges.
"My Status has black bars on the sides"
Your image isn't the right aspect ratio. Fix: Use the Status preset (1080 × 1920, 9:16) and position your photo within the vertical frame.
"My sticker is too large"
WhatsApp stickers must be under 100 KB. Fix: Use the Sticker preset. WaSize automatically sets WebP format, transparent background, and 100 KB target compression.
"WhatsApp is destroying my photo quality"
WhatsApp compresses photos when you send them through chat. Fix: For important images, use HD mode when sending (long-press the send button). Use WaSize to pre-compress your image to a good balance of quality and size.
