5 Signs Your Small Business Website Is Losing Customers (and How to Fix Each One)

Most small business owners don't lose customers because of bad service — they lose them before the customer ever calls. Here are five warning signs I see again and again when auditing local business sites:

1. It loads slower than 3 seconds. Over half of mobile visitors leave if a page takes longer than about 3 seconds. Fix: compress images (WebP), drop unused plugins and heavy sliders, and use good hosting.

2. It looks broken on phones. Most local searches happen on a phone. Tiny text, buttons too close together and sideways scrolling all push people away. Fix: test your site on your own phone today, page by page.

3. There's no clear call to action. If a visitor has to hunt for your phone number or booking link, they'll go back to Google. Fix: put one obvious button ("Call now", "Book online", "Get a quote") at the top of every page.

4. It's invisible on Google. No page titles, no city or service keywords, no Google Business Profile link. Fix: give each service its own page with a title like "Service in City", and add basic local SEO.

5. Information is out of date. Old prices, wrong hours or a 2019 copyright line make people wonder if you're still open. Fix: review your site every quarter.
