Ever needed to show one app window on a tablet without any remote-desktop software?
I built WindowStream for exactly that, and Ive just open-sourced it.
Its a small Windows tray app that streams a chosen window as MJPEG over HTTP on your local network. On the tablet or other PC you just open a browser: nothing to install, and its strictly view-only.
What Im happy with:
- Any modern browser works as the viewer (Android, iOS, another PC), with pinch-zoom, panning and fullscreen.
- Two capture modes: a screen copy, or PrintWindow, which keeps streaming the window even when other windows cover it.
- Light on resources: a frame is encoded only when the picture has changed, and JPEG encoding goes through libjpeg-turbo.
- Starts with Windows and finds the window again even if its title changes.
- English and Russian interface, a single-exe build, unit tests, and user manuals in three languages. Python, MIT licensed.
One caveat: there is no password or encryption, so its meant for trusted networks only, and the docs say so clearly.
Code, a release with the ready-made exe, and documentation: https://github.com/eugenyh/WindowStream
