Foreword

Hello everyone, I am Evan Lin, a senior development technology promotion engineer from the LINE Developer Relations team. My main job is to promote platform technology and build and communicate the technical brand. LINE TAIWAN TECHPULSE 2019 was held on 2019/12/04 at the Heping Basketball Hall. I wonder if you all participated in this carefully arranged event this year. This article shares the messages that I, as a behind-the-scenes staff member, wanted to convey during the event. This article will focus on information other than the main conference agenda, which is the developer-related exchange area. I hope everyone has observed the original intentions of the staff and will experience this knowledge and community feast with this article.

Returning to the Original Intention, Starting from the Essence of Developers

What do developers want most when participating in seminars? It's interaction with people, and "Closing the distance" has always been one of LINE's tenets, and it is also the biggest design goal of this event. Therefore, this event returned to the essence of the developer community, the dreams that developers most wanted to do when participating in seminars but could not realize due to some external conditions, are roughly listed as follows:

  • The speakers are all so strong, I really hope to interact and exchange with the speakers under the stage, and want to hear their opinions and discussions on other aspects and question exchanges.
  • What community organizations are there on LINE's powerful development platform? How do I join them?
  • What are LAEs (LINE API Experts) and where do these big shots come from? Can I communicate with them and ask questions?
  • How to apply for a test account for LINE Pay? How to analyze problems?
  • What is LINE's new star plan? Can I talk to those participating startup teams?
  • I heard that LINE's information security is very good, is there an information security community that I can join?
  • Every time I see the LINE engineers sharing at major seminars, it's great. Is there a chance to discuss with them up close?
  • Is there a chance to get to know more like-minded people through participating in seminars? Or more opportunities to take photos with friends in the same industry?

These questions have been received from guests and community friends since the event was held last year. After careful consideration by the working team, the event's main theme was launched based on developers.

Interactive Booths: Giving You the Opportunity to Know the Gods

First of all, to give everyone who participates the opportunity to discuss face-to-face with the speakers, the organizers provided interactive booths this time. And there are five major theme booths:

Ask LINER:

Allows you to interact and discuss face-to-face with speakers, LINE engineers from Japan. If you don't understand something on stage, you can ask questions under the stage. The panel also clearly shows the time when all the speakers will be at the booth, so don't miss the opportunity to meet the speakers face-to-face.

And at noon, Shoko Sato and Tachibana Sho from the Japanese Developer Relations team will share the activities of Japanese Developer Relations and some interesting Japanese services.

LINE Pay:

Mobile payment is already a major trend. Partners who want to start a business through the LINE official account all hope to quickly understand how to connect to LINE Pay. This booth gives you a face-to-face discussion opportunity.

BECKS.io Community Booth:

BECKS.io, a cross-company information security community organized by LINE's Korean colleagues and Asian legendary information security god Beist, also set up a booth with relevant information at this seminar. In fact, BECKS held five community gatherings in Taiwan this year. If you are interested in information security, you can follow the community event homepage: https://becks.kktix.cc/

LAE (LINE API Expert) Interactive Booth:

LAE (LINE API Expert) since announced in 2018 Q1, Taiwan currently has nine LAEs (you can go to the following website to check all LAEs). Everyone often knows that these LAEs exist from afar, but they have been lacking the opportunity to communicate with them face-to-face. So, taking the opportunity of LINE TECHPULSE, we also invited LAEs to participate in the event.

LINE PROTOSTAR Interactive Booth:

This year's TECHPUSLE also invited 10 startup teams that use the LINE platform to build applications, and the topics are very practical and interesting, which can be divided into life assistants, entertainment, education, and financial technology-related applications. Here, you can learn one by one how each startup team develops its own business through the LINE platform and chatbots, and how to make its related business more active through some Messaging APIs.

Display Rack (Poster): Discussing Architecture with LINE Taiwan Service Engineers

In addition, this year, four LINE Developer Meetups were held, and many community events invited LINE Taiwan product and engineering team development partners to share. In these events, it can also be felt that developers are actually full of curiosity about the LINE engineering team, wanting to know more, whether it is the architecture of product services, or the related technologies used, or the related skills needed by the team.

So, we also specifically asked the engineering teams to create relevant service architecture or team composition-related display racks, and welcome everyone to come to the display rack booth to discuss directly with the engineering team.

There are ten display racks this time, five of which are product teams as follows:

  • LINE SPOT
  • LINE MUSIC
  • LINE Travel
  • LINE Shopping
  • LINE Today

In addition, there are five engineering teams and organizations:

  • LINE Bank
  • LINE QA team
  • LINE Data Dev team
  • LINE UIT team
  • LINE Client team

I hope that the friends who participated have come to understand each team well, and also have a better understanding through interaction with the engineering team.

Photo Wall: Leaving Beautiful Memories Together

"The most important thing about participating in a seminar is not necessarily the agenda itself, but the developers who participate together"

Having participated in some seminars, I always encourage my colleagues or colleagues in this way. Because many of the agendas will have slides released, you have the opportunity to learn more afterwards, but the participants of the seminar are also the most attractive part. Think about it, because of TECHPULSE, did you come to participate with some colleagues? Did you meet friends you haven't seen for a long time? Or did you meet friends who have never met before but are also engaged in LINE Chatbot?

The photo wall is a place for everyone to take photos and leave memories together, and take photos with your partners. Through the options in the Image Map in the official account, it will directly open your camera, allowing you to take photos and share them directly in the "LINE Timeline". The photos will be selected by us and projected on the large photo wall.

During the event, many participants took photos with friends they hadn't seen for a long time. Leaving many beautiful memories together.

Gifts and Related Limited Items: Making Engineers More Trendy

The gifts this time were also carefully designed, and a cool small backpack was specially found so that every engineer could take it to participate in various community events. Making your coolness no longer non-mainstream.

And at the meal time around 3 pm, the organizers also launched limited (event-limited) special TECHPULSE beer so that everyone who participated could enjoy the spiritual feast and also enjoy beer with friends.

LINE Developer Meetup #10: Unique Recruitment Session

Event URL: https://linegroup.kktix.cc/events/20191204-10

Every time at the developer gathering (LINE Developer Meetup), there is often a situation where many developers surround the LINE working team, wanting to understand the tools used by the development team, the working conditions, or the problems they face. This is also because many external developers are actually very interested in participating in the LINE working team. Therefore, during this event, we held the second recruitment briefing, and the content referred to "2019 LINE Taiwan Developers Recruitment Day".

This event is held separately for discussion and clearing the venue, so that each participant can deeply understand the content of the working team they are interested in, and can discuss face-to-face with the interviewers who may be participating.

Event Summary

This annual developer conference has many differences from previous events because the organizers hope to have more interaction between developers and the engineering team. They also hope that developers can have a better seminar participation experience, more gains, and more interaction. After all, the most important thing about a seminar is not the speakers on stage, but every developer who participates.
