Why I Ditched a Custom App and Moved All Customer Notifications to Telegram

If you run a Shopify or WooCommerce store, you know the pain of missing a customer message. You might blame your network, or your response speed. But often, the real culprit is the self-built support app you are using.

Most ecommerce helpdesks offer a dedicated mobile app. It looks professional. But there is an open secret in the SaaS world: most small to mid-sized self-built apps have unreliable push notifications.

Why do self-built support apps fail?
Most rely on APNs (iOS) and FCM (Android). Your customer message doesn't go directly to your phone. It goes to Apple or Google's push servers, then gets forwarded by their rules.

This causes three hard-to-fix problems:

Delays: System push channels batch notifications to save battery. Customer messages get queued behind. By the time you see it, the customer is gone.

Silent channels: When the app is killed, the push channel breaks. You miss messages until you manually reopen the app.

High maintenance: Every iOS/Android update can break the push logic. Maintenance costs get passed to you.

Why Telegram is different
Telegram usually uses FCM/APNs only as a "wake-up signal." System push wakes up the app, and the actual message travels through Telegram's own global long-connection network.

It's not tied to the system push policy. No merged notifications. No rate-limiting in the same way. If the app gets woken up, the message arrives.

What this means for sellers
You don't need to download another app. You get alerts in seconds. You tap a button and reply directly without logging into a dashboard. Customers use the website widget, you use Telegram.

The takeaway
Next time you see a tool emphasizing "we have our own app," ask them: "But can you reliably receive every single customer message on time?"

Don't let an app icon fool you. Reliability is the real standard.
