Every few weeks I need to merge a few PDFs, shrink an image, or convert a file into a format someone else asked for. For years that meant installing yet another desktop app or uploading private documents to a random website.
Recently I started using ConvertProKit, a free set of online tools that run directly in the browser. Here is what I like about it.
What it covers
- PDF tools: merge, split, compress, convert, and sign documents
- Image tools: convert between formats, resize, and compress
- Audio and video: quick conversions without a desktop editor
- Everyday utilities: calculators, text tools, and small developer helpers
Why it works for me
- Nothing to install. Open the page, drop in a file, download the result.
- No account needed. You can start straight away.
- Files stay private. The work happens in your own browser, so your documents are not sent off to be processed on someone else's server.
- Each tool explains itself. Every page says in plain language how to use it and what to expect.
The Flow feature
The part I find most useful is Flow. It lets you chain several tools together, so a whole batch of files can go through multiple steps in one run. For example, you can convert a folder of images and then compress them, without repeating the work file by file.
Who it is for
Students, office workers, freelancers, and anyone who just needs a file in the right format quickly, without paying for software.
If you want to try it, start at convertpk.org and pick the tool you need. New tools are added regularly based on what people search for most.
