In analytics, “real-time” usually means minimal delay between an event happening and the dashboard reflecting it. In practice, that “delay” is a combination of:
- Latency: how long it takes data to arrive and be processed
- Refresh rate: how often the dashboard updates

If a dashboard refreshes every 60 seconds but the data arrives 15 minutes late, it is not real-time. It is “fast refresh, slow truth.”
