Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming that a former Apple engineer accessed confidential company data after leaving the organization.
According to Apple, the engineer found a security flaw that allowed him to keep using his old login credentials even after his employment ended.
The company alleges that he downloaded sensitive files, including information about unreleased products, engineering designs, and internal projects.
Apple says it later discovered the activity through its internal monitoring systems and fixed the security issue.
Apple also claims the engineer had already joined OpenAI during the period when the alleged access took place.
However, the company has not accused OpenAI of directing or encouraging the engineer to collect the confidential information.
OpenAI has denied the allegations and said it has no interest in obtaining competitors' trade secrets.
The lawsuit will now move through the legal process, where both Apple and OpenAI will have the opportunity to present their evidence.
Until a court reaches a decision, these claims remain allegations and have not been proven.
