A common WordPress SEO issue: a blog category archive outranks the product page for the money keyword. We saw this on a natural latex products site, where the category archive ranked around position 9 for "latex rubber mattress" while the actual natural latex mattress product page sat around position 44.
Why it happens. The archive collects several posts using the keyword, so Google sees a page with lots of topical text. The product page has less copy and fewer internal links pointing at it.
What we're doing about it:
Rewrite the archive's title and meta so it targets informational intent, not the product keyword.
Add a short intro on the archive that links to the product page with descriptive anchor text.
Link every post in the category to the product page once, in context.
Strengthen the product page's on-page signals: H1, intro copy, FAQs.
Track both URLs for the query in Search Console weekly.
Takeaway. When the wrong URL ranks, don't delete it. Give each page a distinct job and point internal links at the page you want to rank. Have you handled cannibalisation differently? Share in the comments.
