The four-axis compass asks direction: truth, good, beauty, world — where your work aims. The four fusion rungs ask depth: tool, assistant, partner, symbiont — how deep you let AI in. Cross them and a neglected question appears: at each level of trust, the weighting of the four axes differs. A rung with the wrong weighting is a rung spinning in place.

An observation first: most people have all four axes at tool level (verification, errands, copy edits, lookups — can hardly do without it), but the moment they rise to partner level, only one axis keeps turning — usually truth (have AI analyze for me) or beauty (have AI make for me). Good and world are rare at high levels — not because they're unneeded, but because no one thought to delegate them.

Tool Level: The Training Ground of All Four Axes

At tool level, run every axis once. Truth: use it to verify, but draw conclusions yourself. Good: use it to organize files on the person you're helping, but take the action yourself. Beauty: let it edit drafts, but grow the taste yourself. World: use it to compute the radius of impact, but carry the responsibility yourself. The principle of this rung: the axes stay in your hands — it merely saves strength.

Self-check: Can you give one example from this week for each of these four scenarios? If not all four, tool level isn't yet fully used.

Assistant Level: Truth First, World Last

Assistant level begins delegation. The steadiest start is truth-work: research, comparison, assembling evidence chains — acceptance criteria are clear, errors surface easily. Good-work comes second: drafting appeals, organizing donation lists. Beauty-work needs tight watching: drafts yes, but every stroke of the final passes your eye. World comes last: matters affecting others — the deeper the delegation, the farther the reach of accidents; at this rung assist, don't decide.

Self-check: Of the tasks you've delegated, what fraction can you cover when they go wrong? Below ninety percent — the delegation exceeds your syllabus.

Partner Level: Beauty's Home Turf, Truth's Forbidden Zone

In partner-level division of labor, the beauty axis pays best: you set the standard, it supplies the output, the work grows through iteration. The truth axis is precisely the opposite — letting it form opinions for you at this rung hands it the compass: it points, you walk, and you think you chose. The good axis at partner level is delicate: it can scale kindness, or scale bias — depending on what you calibrated. The world axis may enter partner level, but a human gate must remain: on every decision that lands, the last signature is a person's.

Self-check: In your division of labor, is there an axis where you can no longer say who leads? The axis you can't name — most likely isn't steered by you anymore.

Symbiont Level: Crucible of the Four Axes, and Their Examination Hall

At symbiont level, judgment is shaped both ways, and the borders of the four axes blur — the deepest opportunity, and the greatest hazard. The opportunity: the world axis can finally be taken seriously — questions too large for one brain become reachable only by a human-machine composite. The hazard: the truth axis fails most easily here — you can't tell which judgment was pushed by evidence and which by conversational inertia. So the ticket into symbiosis is a list: write one sentence per axis — "what I will never outsource on this axis" — and paste it where every conversation begins.

Self-check: Have you written the four sentences? If not, symbiosis is still a black box to you; if yes and unaltered, you already deserve this rung.

The Weighting Table

Draw four axes against four rungs as a 4×4 table. A healthy person is not all-rungs-all-axes but a table with a shape: all four axes open at tool level, three at assistant, two at partner (beauty+good or beauty+world), and at symbiont only the one you'd dare to sign. The table's shape is the shape of your relationship with AI — it should look like a face, with hollows and ridges, not a flat wall.

The four-axis compass and the four fusion rungs both come from the tech-civilization framework at psyverse.fun. This is the first crossing of the two chapters.
