Security Testing Trends for 2020

In our fast-paced world, security has become an important need for every consumer and an enterprise. Though the online channels or digitalized interfaces add many benefits for a consumer and enterprise, but they are more prone to vulnerable threats due to rampant cyber-attacks. Cyber- attacks are increasing massively and there is an imminent need to embrace security testing to overcome these security threats and vulnerabilities. Enterprises and businesses should keep abreast of the latest security testing trends to defend their applications from cyber-attacks in 2020.

The more security testing practices an organization does, the better the chances for succeeding in the digitally transformed world which can be achieved with a well-formulated security framework.

The security testing framework is vivid, analyses and evaluates the security of the infrastructure of the app and then moves towards the network, the database and also checks other application exposures. Though companies are widely aware of the importance of cybersecurity, most of them are still unaware to implement the required measures. By following the latest security testing trends, it will be easier to overcome and take the stance of these rampant cyber-attacks. Some of the important security testing trends to follow in 2020 have been elaborated below

What are the Top Security Testing Trends for 2020?

Security-by-Design and SecOps:

For regulations and compliance, Security-by-design reflects to be an important need across enterprises. And, this can be achieved by advancing system development into DevOps, and DevOps into DevSecOps. (DevSecOps is commonly known as SecOps). According to Gartner's prediction, by 2021 almost 80% of the development teams will be using the SecOps workflow as these emerge to be the new solutions for Security-by-design.

Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Scanning:

An enterprise must always try to be a step ahead for its security, as it avoids the hacker's success. By opting for resources like Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Top 10, and National Vulnerability Database (NVD) Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE), these resources will help to scan and find the vulnerabilities such that a security tester can easily sort and protect the threats.

Compliance Testing:

Compliance testing may be the major one to seek massive changes in 2019. EU’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) – the new complex and expanded regulations for data protection provides tough challenges for enterprises and testers. Since the GDPR was implemented a year ago, the chances of improving or implementing further standards are possible, and testers have to stay up-to-date on these regulations.
Internet of Things (IoT) Testing:

The IoT smart products of the consumer are at a state of under-protection and the knowledge to avoid these threats is less. Underestimating the dangers with IoT devices will become a hazard for both – the Internet and the end-user. Hence, the demand for thorough security testing should be very high in the IoT space.

Threat Awareness training: This is a long-lasting security trend and if organizations fail to provide necessary threat awareness training for their staff members. Hence, every corporate sector has to proactively take required measures for detecting their internal security threats.

Securing the Supply Chain: As most of the organizations are shifting for third-party services and components, it becomes essential to adapt testing for avoiding potential risks. Hence, testing has to be initiated for securing the supply chain.
