It depends on the purpose. There are tones of languages and platforms and each one covers a need.
Sometimes a language covers more than one and mostly you can code almost everything with any language, the result thought may vary depending on the performance or capabilities that given language has for the target.
E.g. I won't code an OS with JavaScript and expect it to work as it would if I used C instead.
