Audit Your Brand's AI Visibility in 30 Minutes
Most brands have no idea if AI models can actually find them. They assume if Google ranks them, they're fine. Wrong. AI visibility and search visibility are completely different problems. ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini operate on different training data, different retrieval systems, and different citation patterns. Your SEO wins don't automatically translate to AI citations.
The gap exists because most brands built their entire online presence for human search. They never optimized for AI. Nobody told them to. Now there's a real cost to being invisible in AI answers. When someone asks ChatGPT "what's the best CRM for startups," your product might not even be mentioned. That's market share lost to brands that showed up.
You can measure this yourself in about 30 minutes. You don't need tools yet. You just need to ask the right questions to the right models and actually pay attention to what happens.
Start with your core queries. What are the three to five questions your customers actually ask before they buy? Write them down. These should be specific enough to matter but general enough that an AI model would try to answer them. "What is marketing automation" works. "Why does our product exist" doesn't.
Now open ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude in separate tabs. Ask each one the same query. Read the answer all the way through. Did they mention your brand? Did they cite your content? Did they mention a competitor instead? Write this down for every query across all three models. You're looking for patterns. If you show up in ChatGPT but not Claude, that's useful information. If you never show up anywhere, that's a bigger problem.
Check what they actually cited. When an AI mentions a source, it usually links to it. Click those links. Are they competitor websites? Industry publications? Outdated guides from five years ago? This tells you exactly what content the models think is authoritative for your category. If none of it is yours, you know why you're invisible.
This is where most brands realize their AI visibility problem isn't accidental. They simply never built content that models want to cite.
The second phase is checking your discoverability. Search Google for a query, but add "site:yourcompany.com" to see what actually indexes. Now do the same on Archive.org and Perplexity. Perplexity is basically a public window into what content AI models can actually access and cite. If your content doesn't show up there, it definitely won't show up in ChatGPT.
Pay attention to your structured data while you're at it. Rich snippets, schema markup, FAQs—these all matter for AI citations. If your website doesn't explicitly tell search engines and models what your content is about, they have to guess. Models don't guess well. They cite what's obvious. So if your best content has zero schema, that's a quick win to fix.
Also check your robots.txt and meta tags. Some brands accidentally block AI crawlers without realizing it. Others have noindex tags on pages that should be indexed. You'd be shocked how often the technical stuff is the real problem. It takes two minutes to check and could be why you're invisible.
After 30 minutes, you should have a clear picture. You know which queries you show up in, which models cite you, what content they prefer, and whether technical issues are holding you back. This is your AEO baseline. You're not running a full audit yet. You're just getting honest about where you stand.
Most brands that do this exercise discover they're either completely invisible or showing up in ways they didn't expect. Either way, you now know what to fix. That's the whole point. You can't improve what you don't measure.
