Starting My Journey as a Backend Engineer 🚀

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm Gurpreet, a Computer Science Engineer from India, and this is my first post on DEV.to.

For a while, I've been learning different technologies, building projects, practicing DSA, and trying to understand what it actually means to become a good software engineer. Right now, I'm focusing mainly on Java, Spring Boot, SQL, backend development, and software engineering fundamentals.

But recently, I've started realizing something important:

Learning more technologies doesn't automatically make you a better engineer.

Building projects has made me think beyond just writing code. I'm trying to understand why a particular approach makes sense, how APIs should be designed, how data flows through an application, how security and validation should be handled, and how to build software that is actually maintainable.

I'm also working on improving my communication.I can understand technical concepts, but I'm actively developing the skill of explaining them clearly and confidently. So I'm practicing both my technical and communication skills at the same time.

I'm joining DEV.to to learn in public. I'll be sharing things I learn, problems I encounter, mistakes I make, project experiences, and hopefully some useful lessons along the way.

I don't have everything figured out.
I'm here to build, learn, make mistakes, and get better.
