1Password introduces a feature enabling compatible AI assistants to handle login requirements without exposing vault credentials.
Learn how session-scoped approvals work and which platforms are supported.
When an assistant needs to log into an account, 1Password lets the user know who is requesting access and why. Only if the user approves does 1Password fill in the required details. Approval is valid only for that session and the details the user selected; it doesn’t carry over to the next session.
According to the company, usernames, passwords, and temporary codes for additional verification remain outside of assistants. Compatible assistants that 1Password names include Meta's Muse, Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work, OpenAI's Dots, SpaceXAI's Grok Bot, and Town. In July, the company also showed off integration with Claude before announcing the new platform.
1Password recommends the feature for tasks like restaurant reservations, gift shopping, and vacation planning. However, granting access doesn't prevent the assistant from making mistakes: for example, it might order the wrong product or make a vacation reservation that might not be canceled.
