8BitDo's Ultimate 2 wireless controller for the Switch 2 brings Hall effect triggers, TMR thumbsticks, and a 2.4G wireless dongle to the platform at a $70 price point.
Read the full hardware breakdown covering its bundled charging dock, customizable profiles, and hardware compromises compared to the official Nintendo controller.
The package includes the controller itself, a charging base with cable, a wireless transmitter and spare key caps. The accessory has a small and convenient size, fitting even smaller hands.
Features and functions
The controller features custom levers and triggers designed to last and provide precision without wear. It offers a total of six shoulder buttons, two back buttons, and three customizable profiles.
Around the levers there are light rings that can be adjusted either directly on the fly or through a special application. The battery lasts for many days of intermittent use, even when the lighting and vibration are at maximum. In addition, it supports wireless connection and can wake the console with a light shake.
The positives and the negatives
A disadvantage was identified as the four small front buttons, whose symbols are difficult to read at a quick glance because they have a low profile and the same color as the front.
Compared to the official Nintendo controller, 8BitDo's proposal is cheaper and includes a charging base and lighting. On the other hand, the official controller has a headphone jack, a reader for special game figures, and silent joysticks.
