Anduril and Qualcomm are preparing a new rugged laptop for the US military

Anduril and Qualcomm announced the BlueChip laptop partnership, a rugged system built for defense and government use, slated for preorders in 2027.

The first generation targets 90% domestic or allied manufacturing with an Arizona-built Snapdragon X CPU.

Pre-orders for the BlueChip are expected to open in 2027. Anduril founder Palmer Luckey aims to bring computer component manufacturing back to the American market.

A computer for tough conditions

The first computer in the series is a rugged device designed specifically for the military, government agencies, law enforcement, and first responders.

Due to its rugged materials, the laptop is heavier, has limited battery life, and is not intended for the average consumer. Its price is estimated to be about 20% higher than the usual expensive laptops on the market. The total market for this type of rugged computers is estimated at about 5 billion dollars.

In terms of software, the device will work with Windows applications, some versions of Linux used by the government, as well as older software.

Manufactured in the USA and allied countries

For the first generation of the computer, about 90% of the components will be made in the United States or allied countries. The central processor will be a Snapdragon X Series chip, which will be manufactured at TSMC's Arizona factory.

The long-term plan calls for achieving full, 100% domestic production in the US, including screens and metal parts. Currently, screens are among the components manufactured exclusively in China.

The computer's design is also aimed at complying with US government regulations that require the purchase of computers manufactured in the country.
