The 2026 iPad mini features a significant hardware overhaul, moving to an 8.5-inch OLED display with a 2,316 x 1,512 resolution and the A20 Pro chip.
A notable architectural change is the implementation of Acoustic Display technology, which eliminates traditional speaker grills in favor of screen-based vibrational audio.
The device also gains IP67 ingress protection, supporting submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, and includes a landscape-oriented FaceTime camera.
The starting price is now $699.
Water and dust resistance
The new iPad mini is certified to be water and dust resistant, allowing the device to survive being submerged in up to 1 meter of fresh water for 30 minutes. To achieve this, Apple has eliminated the traditional speaker holes. Instead, it uses technology that emits sound through vibrations directly from the screen.
Screen and performance
The device features an 8,5-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2.316 x 1.512 pixels. The refresh rate remains at 60Hz. Inside the device is the A20 Pro processor, with graphics performance varying depending on the storage option the user chooses.
Design changes and availability
The video camera has been moved to the far side of the device, making it more natural to use when the tablet is in landscape mode. iPad mini is available in two colors: Midnight (black) and Starlight (gold). The device will be available in stores on November 6, 2026.
