Apple is developing a higher-end smart home display codenamed J595 featuring a 9-inch screen and a 360-degree motorized swiveling base for automated user tracking.
Read on for the latest reported hardware details and projected timelines.
The new device, which is under development in the company's laboratories with the internal name J595, is not intended to replace the recently announced model, but to be positioned as a more expensive and quality alternative.
The new model is likely to feature a larger screen, around 9 inches, compared to the 7 inches of the current model. The biggest change, however, is expected to be the ability for the screen to rotate a full 360 degrees. Using voice recognition, the device will be able to automatically turn towards the user across the room, following them during video calls.
For now, the final name and exact release date remain uncertain. According to sources, the device could be released next year or even 2028, and due to its features, it is expected to cost more than the $299 base model.
