Apple is reportedly set to debut HomeView, a new smart home hub powered by an A18 chip and integrated with Siri, launching in countertop and wall-mounted configurations.
According to the same information, the new device will act as a central control station for the smart home, based on the company's voice assistant. HomeView will feature a display and processor designed by Apple. It will be released in two different versions: a tabletop model with a metal speaker stand and a wall-mounted version.
The desktop version will be available in gray, silver, glitter, and pink, while the wall-mounted version will only be available in gray and silver. Previous reports have suggested a seven-inch square display and built-in facial recognition technology.
Users will be able to open familiar apps, such as Photos, Notes and Calendar, through a hybrid user interface. The device is expected to be released in mid-November. German says Apple hopes that third-party companies will build accessories that can be controlled via voice commands, with HomeView acting as the central connection point.
The announcement is part of a broader effort that includes home accessories, such as a doorbell, smart lock and thermostat, which were developed in partnership with LG.
New Apple TV and HomePod Mini
Updated versions of Apple's TV device and HomePod Mini smart speaker are also expected on Tuesday.
The new TV is expected to feature voice control, an updated remote, and a newer processor. The new HomePod Mini is expected to feature a dedicated chip that extends voice control and music playback throughout the home.
