Apple is testing a black and white icon for Apple Music in iOS 18.2

Apple Music is refreshing its visual identity by replacing its 13-year-old red icon with a black-and-white design, as observed in iOS 27.2 beta 4.

The update introduces a slightly tilted logo, oval-shaped notes, a drop shadow, and dark mode variants, alongside removing red accents from widgets and the app interface.

The new icon retains the classic note shape, but is slightly tilted to the left, has more oval notes, and a subtle shadow. The company also created a dark version with a white design on a black background, as well as options with a transparent or colored appearance. Along with removing the red color from the icon, Apple also removed red from the widgets on the home screen, and changed the interior color of the app from red and pink to blue.

Reactions from users on social media have been mostly negative. Many have called the new look boring and uninteresting, arguing that the change was unnecessary, although there have also been some users who found the change positive.

As the app is still in the testing phase, Apple reserves the right to change its mind before the final version is released.
