Apple updated its App Store guidelines to prohibit AI-generated offensive content and penalize deceptive submission workflows, including bait-and-switch tactics that alter app features post-review.
The policy also mandates content filtering and reporting features for user-generated content.
The new rules explicitly prohibit apps that hide their true capabilities when submitted for approval to the digital store and then change features. Apple has made it clear that any app that adds features that were not in the original approved version will be immediately deleted.
At the same time, the regulations stipulate that any apps that host user-generated content must have filtering mechanisms, as well as the ability to report offensive material and block accounts. The company also updated its terms, emphasizing that it will exclude apps that promote human trafficking and child exploitation.
This move comes after pressure and reports in previous months that showed such apps were making their way into app stores.
