An AI agent with server access deleted the entire edited season of Sweden's The Challenge weeks before release, erasing months of work.
TV4 blamed human error and a failed backup system, while raw footage enabled a full recut.
The incident resulted in months of lost work in the preparation of the season. According to reports based on information from the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the artificial intelligence had gained access to the production's central storage systems and proceeded to delete the final material.
The show's director attributed the problem to a backup failure, as there was no other way to recover the lost files. Fortunately, the unedited footage was not affected, forcing the production team to restart the editing process for the entire season.
For its part, the TV4 television network that commissioned the show conducted an investigation into the incident. According to the results of the investigation, the error is attributed to a human factor and not to a malfunction of the artificial intelligence program itself.
