Cloudflare analysis reveals that following data center disruptions at Yandex, malicious bot traffic and automated scanning dropped significantly on the affected infrastructure.
However, operators quickly migrated workloads to alternative hosting ASNs like Radist and Selectel, resulting in flat overall attack volumes across targeted sectors.
After the attacks, traffic on Yandex's search and infrastructure services remained at 10% to 15% of normal levels, indicating that the network remains disrupted. While there was a drop in activities such as checking systems for problems, automated systems did not disappear.
This was clearly seen in the case of a gaming company that works with Cloudflare. While attacks from Yandex's systems dropped to zero, the exact same activity began to flow through other networks.
Overall, requests for gaming accounts remained stable over the week, increasing slightly from 167,7 million to 170,1 million. The people behind these programs simply moved their work to other hosting companies once Yandex stopped functioning properly.
