Samsung Display reports that the Galaxy Z Fold7’s inner screen remained fully functional after 500,000 folds in a 13-day test.

The test did not cover the hinge, flexible cables or other phone components.

This article examines what the durability result does—and does not—show alongside reported real-world use.

I used the Galaxy Z Fold4 for almost three years and gave it a lot of use. However, my mother's Galaxy Z Fold6 stopped working properly after about a year when the internal screen broke. It may have been due to debris around the hinge, but the cause was not determined.

Before closing the phone, check for any foreign objects stuck between the two sides. Samsung recommends removing such objects and not applying excessive pressure to the internal screen.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 are resistant to solid objects 1mm and larger, but are not protected from dust. Motorola says dust can shorten the life of the hinge and damage the internal display. It recommends checking for debris before closing the phone, but warns against using compressed air on the display.

What do the endurance tests show?

Google says the Pixel 10 Pro Fold hinge can withstand folds equivalent to over 10 years of use. In a 13-day test at 77 degrees Fahrenheit, the Galaxy Z Fold7’s internal display remained fully functional after 500.000 folds, according to Samsung Display. The company estimated that this equates to over 10 years of use at about 100 folds per day, or over six years at more than 200 folds per day.

The test only tested the foldable display, not the hinge, flex cables, or other parts of the phone. In everyday use, drops, dust, temperature changes, and contact with water can cause problems before the phone reaches the number of folds in the test. This does not necessarily mean that the hinge is at fault.

The Razr+ 2026 can run full apps on the 4-inch external screen, without having to open the phone.

Pay attention to any changes in the feel of the hinge. Motorola says that some noise is normal. However, if the hinge is more difficult to move, the phone won't open properly, or a new squeaking sound starts to be heard, don't force it.

According to Samsung, replacing the Galaxy Z Fold8's internal screen costs $579.
