Chimera Linux gets new installation files after almost a year

Chimera Linux has released its first ISO installation images in nearly a year.

The 20261103 build includes Linux kernel 7.3, GNOME 51, and KDE Plasma 6.8, while dropping the server and shifting the default networking stack to NetworkManager.

What do the new versions include?

The updated installations bring the Linux kernel 7.3 along with the modern GNOME 51 and KDE Plasma 6.8 desktops. One key change is that the new installation files no longer include X.Org, leaving it out for good.

Networking has also been changed, with the base installation now using NetworkManager instead of iwd. According to the developers, this change prepares the system for the removal of AF_ALG.

What applies to today's users

Those who already use Chimera Linux do not need to do a fresh install from scratch. Their system will receive all new updates as normal through the usual package update process.
