Cloudflare's Q3 2026 report reveals 18.2 million network-layer DDoS attacks and 14.4 trillion mitigated HTTP requests.
Data highlights a shift toward short-burst sub-10-minute attacks and new botnet variants like Dysphoria.
According to the data published by the company, these attacks correspond to approximately 8.226 attacks per hour, or one attack every 0,44 seconds. This number shows a significant increase compared to previous quarters of the year, as 13,2 million such attacks were recorded in the second quarter and 10 million in the first.
What are the reasons for the increase?
This increase is mainly linked to attack-for-hire services available online. At the same time, experts identified a huge 208% increase in short, short-duration attacks lasting less than ten minutes.
In contrast, giant attacks decreased by 69% compared to the previous quarter, falling from 805 to 251. This decrease is attributed to the authorities' interventions against specific groups in March.
New threats and targets
Despite the decline in massive attacks, risks remain as new automated device networks, such as Dysphoria and Evooo1Bot, emerge. Additionally, attacks exploiting web address systems increased by 215%.
