Cyberattack on the Italian Parliament: Giorgia Meloni's email was hacked

The Italian Chamber of Deputies confirmed a cyberattack targeting its IT systems, resulting in three compromised email accounts, including one belonging to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

The affected accounts include that of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, which has been attributed to her in her capacity as a member of parliament, as well as the accounts of Andrea Delmastro, former deputy justice minister and senior figure in the Brothers of Italy party, and League MP Paolo Formentini.

The competent services of the Italian parliament confirmed the incident. At the same time, they attempted to downplay the seriousness of the situation, pointing out that there is no reason for concern or a state of emergency, as similar attempts are recorded daily. In a statement released to the public, it was emphasized that checks are underway and the required protection protocols have been implemented, in close cooperation with the National Cybersecurity Agency of Italy.

For its part, the Prime Minister's office clarified that the compromised address concerns exclusively her parliamentary role and is not used for official government affairs. A different account is used for government communication, which is protected by the separate security systems of the Tsiki Mansion.
