Binance reported a security incident affecting ~$6.3 billion in assets, surpassing previous heists.

Initial findings suggest a compromised DevOps engineer laptop allowed access to a service container for unauthorized withdrawals, with no evidence of private key leaks.

According to the company, initial investigation indicates that an engineer's laptop was compromised, allowing someone to gain access to a service system and send unauthorized withdrawal commands.

Binance clarified that there is no indication that digital wallet keys were leaked. At the same time, it announced that it will fully cover all losses from its security fund and its own funds.

How much money has been frozen?

So far, nearly $3 billion of affected assets have been frozen directly on the networks.
