Elon Musk announced a plan to distribute one SpaceX share to every child in the U.S. by 2027, following Anthropic's equity fund proposal.
With 72 million children and shares valued at 146 dollars, the move totals an estimated 10.5 billion dollars, though operational and distribution mechanisms remain entirely unexplained.
Based on SpaceX's stock price of $146 in October 2026 and 2025 U.S. census data showing there are 72 million children in the country, the move would cost Musk about $10,5 billion. Musk's total net worth is estimated by Forbes at $908,5 billion.
Musk's announcement came in response to plans by Anthropic to allocate 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund. Anthropic said the fund could be used for donations to nonprofits or direct distributions to specific populations. It also noted that artificial intelligence could impact the job market and help workers facing uncertainty, but did not explain exactly how.
Anthropic also plans to add an additional 2% of shares to the fund for every 50% increase in the company's value, subject to approval by its board of directors.
