Employers now recognize resumes written by artificial intelligence

A TestGorilla survey of recruiters in the UK and US reports that 75% of UK employers surveyed believe most CVs are written with AI assistance.

Meanwhile, 49% say verifying candidates’ skills is their biggest hiring challenge.

The findings put skill verification—not just AI-assisted writing—at the center of the hiring discussion.

The challenge of reliability

The ease with which candidates can now create “perfect” resumes has made the job of recruiters much more difficult. 33% of employers report that the applications they receive are too similar, making it difficult to select the right candidate.

The biggest problem, according to 49% of British employers, is skills verification. Recruiters are forced to spend up to 60 minutes with each candidate, trying to establish whether the skills listed on the CV are real.

This is especially true for knowledge related to artificial intelligence itself: 87% of employers report that candidates' abilities in practice are often weaker than they appear on paper.

How the hiring process is changing

The difficulty of trusting CVs as an assessment tool has forced many companies to change tactics. With 43% of employers reporting a shortage of qualified candidates, the search for staff is becoming more rigorous. At the same time, 15% of British employers admit to hiring people based solely on a candidate’s promise that they can handle the task, with the corresponding figure in the US reaching 23%.
