SpaceX is rolling out a free hardware refresh for early Starlink subscribers (2020-2021) utilizing first-generation circular antennas.
The upgrade replaces legacy hardware with the current V4 antenna and Router 3 ecosystem, including provided professional installation.
This transition signals the phasing out of the initial Rev 1 and Rev 2 hardware, as these older units will be deactivated shortly after the new equipment is brought online.
The new replacement package includes the V4 antenna, the third-generation router, as well as all the necessary cables, the power supply and the mounting base. The company also offers the option of free installation at your location by a professional.
How will you receive the new antenna?
You don't need to take any action yourself. Beneficiaries will receive an official email from Starlink with all the necessary instructions.
What will happen to the old equipment?
Once you activate your new package or 14 days have passed since its delivery, the old circular antenna will be permanently deactivated. Once deactivated, the device will not be able to connect to the internet, nor can it be given or sold to another user. SpaceX recommends that you recycle the old device at local facilities, as it is not required to be returned.
The benefits of upgrading
The new V4 model offers users faster connections and better energy efficiency compared to the first generation of equipment.
