Google has announced new features for the Google Play Store allowing US users over 18 to share personal software across devices without a developer account.
The update introduces a private section named Your personal library for sharing apps with friends and family, alongside an upgraded AI-powered Ask Play assistant for app comparisons, refined game discovery tools, and new parental control age-range settings.
According to the company's announcement, these apps will not be available to the general public. Instead, they will be stored in a private and secure section of the store, which will be called a personal library. Users will be able to upload and download their apps using their simple, everyday account on any compatible device. This feature is intended for users located in the United States and who are over 18 years old.
Google says the feature is a first step for those who want to develop their apps and, if they meet quality and security criteria, move to a regular developer account. Before that, creators will be able to share their apps with a closed circle of friends and family, for testing or as everyday tools for use at home. The company has not yet clarified exactly how the sharing process will work, and said the new feature is expected to roll out in the coming months.
New features for app search and parental controls
At the same time, the Ask Play AI feature has been upgraded to be able to compare two apps and suggest the right choice. Meanwhile, game search tools have been improved to help users find their favorite genres and mechanics.
