An examination into smart glasses highlights how built-in cameras in popular models from brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley can be misused for secret recording, with indicator LEDs easily covered by stickers.
The most popular of these glasses are released by Meta in collaboration with well-known brands, such as Ray-Ban and Oakley, and they look exactly like regular glasses. In these models, the camera lens is located on the right side of the frame, while on the left there is a light that indicates when the device is recording.
How can the recording be hidden?
The indicator light can be easily covered with special stickers sold online. In addition to branded models, there are other glasses on the market with hidden cameras, such as lenses that are hidden in the bridge of the nose or other parts of the frame, without any visible opening.
Hidden cameras can also be embedded in everyday objects, such as water bottles, pens, wristwatches and phone charging pads. According to technology journalist Will Greenwald, dedicated spy tools are rare, and most people who misuse such devices prefer fashionable models, such as Meta glasses.
