How the new Googlebooks compare to Apple's MacBooks

Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are releasing the first Googlebooks powered by Intel Core Ultra 5 or Snapdragon X Elite chips.

Running a modified version of Android 17 tailored strictly for Android apps, the hardware features 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, 512GB SSDs, and deep Gemini AI integration, with prices starting at $899.99.

Design and connections

Googlebooks are made by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. They range in thickness from 0,5 to 0,63 inches and feature screens from 13 to 15 inches. Lenovo offers a vibrating touchpad, while the other models use a mechanical mechanism underneath. Almost all Googlebooks combine USB-C ports with regular USB and HDMI ports, except for the Dell model, which has only two USB-C ports. In addition, all but the HP model have a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint reader in the power button.

On the other hand, Apple's MacBook Airs are even thinner, measuring 0,44 to 0,45 inches thick, and feature two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a separate magnetic charging port, and a headphone jack.

Screens and technical characteristics

Googlebooks' displays offer high resolutions of 1600p to 1800p, touch functionality, 500 nits of brightness, and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, while some models use OLED panels. In contrast, MacBooks feature standard displays with a resolution of around 219 to 224 pixels per inch, 500 nits of brightness, and a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Inside, Googlebooks are powered by Intel Core Ultra 5 325 or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors, starting with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, which can be upgraded. MacBooks run on Apple processors or the A18 Pro chip in the MacBook Neo model.

Operating system and mobile connectivity

The Googlebooks operating system is based on a modified version of Android 17, which limits the devices to using mobile apps only. In contrast, MacBooks run on the established macOS.
