iPhone Live Activities surface app updates without opening the app, and are usually enabled by default.
This guide covers the user-facing controls: managing activities per app, adjusting lock-screen access, disabling them in CarPlay, and how they differ from regular notifications.
If they don't appear on iPhone
Live Activities are usually enabled by default. If they don't appear for an app, go to Settings > Apps , select the app, and check that Live Activities is enabled.
The feature is separate from regular notifications. If you're not seeing the updates you're expecting, also check if app notifications are enabled.
Activities can also be shown on the lock screen. To enable this, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and enter your passcode. Then, under Allow access when locked , make sure Live activities is turned on.
Live activities in CarPlay
CarPlay automatically displays your iPhone's Live activities in the dashboard, to the left of the app list. There, you can see, for example, the status of a food order or updates about an upcoming flight.
If an app is full screen, activities appear as notifications at the bottom. You can turn off Live Activities in CarPlay, or for specific apps, in your iPhone settings.
If they don't appear, check in CarPlay settings to make sure Live Activities and Suggestions in CarPlay or Suggestions in Dashboard are turned on . If they still don't appear, turn off Focus While Driving if it's on.
CarPlay also supports small panels with information and controls from apps. You'll find them in the leftmost section of the dashboard.
