LG's UltraGear evo GX9 brings a 39-inch 5K2K OLED panel to a curved gaming monitor priced at $1,799.99.
We examine its dual-mode capabilities, hardware specifications, and the practical performance of its built-in AI upscaling features.
The display has a 21:9 aspect ratio and a slight curvature. The back has a matte finish with backlighting, as well as plenty of connectivity options, including HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, USB ports, and a headphone jack. It also includes built-in 7-watt speakers with a dedicated audio mode.
Dual mode for games
The display offers the ability to switch between two different gaming settings: it can run at 165Hz at its full, maximum resolution or 330Hz at a lower resolution. Additionally, users can shrink the active display area to display at 34, 27 or 24,5 inches, depending on their preference.
The image enhancement function
One of the main features of the display is the built-in processor that attempts to upscale lower-resolution content. However, for this to work properly, specific settings are required on PCs and consoles. Tests showed mixed results, as sometimes the image looked over-sharpened and sometimes there was no visible difference, which leaves questions about the value of such a feature on such an expensive device.
