LineageOS 24.0 released with Android 17 features and new tools

LineageOS 24.0 brings Android 17 to supported devices, featuring the Canvas image editor, Twelve music player updates with Jellyfin integration, and a redesigned updater with streaming update support.

The release incorporates security patches through October 2026 while ending submissions for older Linux kernels.

New photography and entertainment tools

The new version includes Canvas, a new photo editor that allows for quick fixes like cropping, adjusting white balance, and applying filters. The Twelve music app also features faster library loading, a new activity view, and the ability to connect to Jellyfin services.

The Jelly web browser has gained features that allow websites to function as standalone applications via shortcuts, while the launcher for Android TVs features refreshed animations, new icons, and a battery indicator.

Easier updates and installation

The update manager app has been completely redesigned and now enables streaming updates by default on compatible devices with dual storage, along with new installation tools that work directly from within the web browser.

Who is affected and which devices are supported?

LineageOS 24.0 supports a wide range of devices, from Pixel phones to models from OnePlus, Motorola, Fairphone, Nothing, and ASUS, and includes security patches from August 2025 to October 2026.

However, the team is stopping accepting new releases for devices based on older versions of the Linux kernel, specifically versions 4.4 and 4.9. In addition, developers are conducting experimental tests to see if the system works on computers with different processors, such as Apple Silicon Macs and Snapdragon X-powered laptops.

Existing users upgrading from an official previous version usually do not need to erase their device data.
