Startup Zest has introduced an AI-powered text-message concierge that integrates credit card transaction tracking via Plaid with reservation platforms like OpenTable and Resy to handle restaurant recommendations and group bookings.
Zest was founded in November 2024, having secured $1,8 million in funding from investors including Alexis Ohanian and Steve Zhang. The key feature of the app is that it connects to users' credit cards, through the financial service Plaid, to track food and beverage transactions.
How the assistant works in messages
Users can contact the digital assistant by texting (212) 470-6067. The assistant can also be added to group chats, where it combines everyone's preferences, organizes polls within the group, and books tables.
For reservations, the service checks availability and makes reservations through popular platforms such as OpenTable, Resy and SevenRooms. Users can request recommendations based on cuisine, occasion, dietary needs or neighborhood, as well as request restaurant menus.
The company's next steps
The company has been testing the assistant since last month before officially launching it for booking capabilities. In the future, Zest is considering expanding beyond restaurants to offer suggestions for other businesses and markets.
