New power systems from Schneider Electric for artificial intelligence data centers

Schneider Electric introduced new prefabricated power modules and open skids designed for AI data center infrastructure.

Featuring configurations up to 2.5 MW, the systems incorporate Galaxy VXL UPS hardware and follow reference designs developed in collaboration with NVIDIA for architectures such as the GB300 NVL72.

The series includes Prefabricated Power Modules and Power Skids, which are available in 2 MW, 2,25 MW and 2,5 MW per unit configurations. According to the company, the 2,5 MW version is the largest prefabricated containerized power solution it has made available to date. The use of standardized designs allows the systems to be built in as little as six months, significantly shorter than the 12 to 14 months required for customized prefabricated solutions. This time frame is solely for the electrical power infrastructure and not for the completion of the entire data center.

Prefabricated Power Modules are based on the Galaxy VXL UPS uninterruptible power supply systems and integrate electrical switching equipment, cooling systems, lithium-ion batteries and power distribution systems in a single housing. Their assembly and testing are completed in the factory before installation. On the other hand, Power Skids have the same basic electrical infrastructure in an open layout on a base, so that they can be placed indoors in data centers. The design allows for the parallel installation of multiple units, gradually increasing the total power to tens of megawatts.

The system designs are based on reference designs developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, featuring architectures for the GB300 NVL72 platform with integrated power management and liquid cooling controls. This enables the units to support high-performance computing systems, AI model training clusters, and GPU-intensive applications.

As noted by Tarunjeet Sarao, senior vice president of Schneider Electric’s Data Center Systems division, standardization aims to reduce development time through predefined specifications and product codes, reducing individual design tasks. Design, manufacturing and testing are carried out at the company’s expanded facilities in Sant Boi de Llobregat, near Barcelona, which have 5.000 square meters of dedicated production space.
