New update 3.3.6 available for popular program management tool on Debian and Ubuntu

APT 3.3.6 has landed for Linux distributions, introducing a fix for CVE-2026-109518 alongside out-of-bounds fixes in the DEB parser and dependency resolver.

Learn what changed in the package manager update.

The problem was solved by changing the way the system handles files when they are downloaded, so that they are opened exclusively and access conflicts are prevented. At the same time, the new version fixes two more technical points: one concerns the way packages are read, now rejecting those that do not have the necessary version indication, and the second fixes the dependency sorting function.

The update also brings improvements to performance measurement tools and expands automated quality checks with the use of new testing frameworks.

Currently, version 3.3.6 is available in the Debian experimental release. Users running the main and stable versions of Debian or Ubuntu are not expected to see it on their systems immediately through their regular channels.
