Tiling Shell v18.0 is out for GNOME, adding GNOME 51 support and compatibility back to GNOME 45.
The update introduces a FancyZones-inspired right-click activation method for window tiling, resolves fractional scaling display bugs, and adds workspace management shortcuts.
The update brings a new way to arrange windows on the screen. While holding down the left mouse button to drag a window, you can press the right mouse button to bring up the arrangement wizard. When you release the left mouse button on an area, the window snaps into place without having to use the keyboard. This feature is not enabled by default, but was added at the request of users who were used to similar features on other operating systems.
What else does the new version fix?
The update resolves issues where menu items and the layout editor would appear too large on the screen when using an intermediate scale. It also adds the ability to set a shortcut to exit all windows from the layout at once, set different layouts per workspace, and options for how windows are brought to the forefront.
Availability and installation
The new version is available on the official GNOME extensions website and works on versions 45 to 51, supporting Ubuntu 24.04 LTS systems or later.

Current users will receive the update automatically, but will need to log out and log back in to fully apply. Ubuntu users are advised to disable the built-in similar tool by going to the desktop settings and then to the enhanced window arrangement section to avoid any conflicts between them.
