KDE Plasma 6.8.1 is now available as the first maintenance release in the 6.8 series, bringing targeted fixes for KWin, Wayland compositing, and KRdp remote desktop integration.

Fixes for graphics cards and displays
The new release focuses mainly on fixes and improvements for KWin, the window manager. For users with multiple NVIDIA graphics cards, the update restores a workaround that was previously used. AMD Cezanne graphics cards, on the other hand, regain a setting related to color compression.
The changes include cursor fixes, better display settings management, and fixes for issues with computer sleep or power management. Some color features have also been temporarily disabled for the entire 6.8 series to prevent visual issues.
Users are also seeing improvements to pointer behavior, full-screen window switching, and fixes for potential errors when a display device is not available.

Remote connection and applications
Significant improvements have also been made to the KDE Remote Desktop connection system. Connection and authentication issues when using the official Windows Remote Connection application have been fixed. In addition, cursor color errors, password issues, and issues related to digital certificates have been fixed.
The update also brings fixes to various applications in the environment:
- The application management tool fixes an issue with preparing updates in the background.
- The screenshot app now correctly saves files when using save with a new name and reverts to the default location if the previous folder no longer exists.
- The interface better manages text copy history and floating toolbar settings.
- The brightness on the screen is displayed correctly even when the brightness keys are pressed at their absolute limits.
- Smaller improvements were made to the lock screen on mobile devices, appearance themes, and sound indicators.
Availability
Plasma 6.8.1 is already available in source code, while updated versions are expected to arrive in Linux distributions soon.
