UBports rolls out Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.2 and 24.04-1.6 maintenance updates, integrating upstream security protections against compromised eMudhra certificate authorities alongside VoLTE stack updates and AppArmor cache improvements.
These emergency updates were deemed necessary due to a recent issue identified in eMudhra's digital certificate authorities. To address this, the operating system's creators have incorporated system security changes and added safeguards to block certificate chains associated with the affected authorities.
Call and app improvements
Version 24.04-2.2 brings preparatory changes to support voice calls over cellular networks. These changes include support for new communication interfaces and fixes to features related to Qualcomm processors. These changes prepare the ground and do not immediately enable this feature on new devices.
Additionally, we fixed an issue that prevented the default web browser from opening after upgrading from an older version to a newer one. We also improved how the system handles temporary security files so that they are cleaned up when users change update channels or revert to an older version.
Known issue and installation instructions
Officials have identified a known issue in the Photos app, where a change temporarily prevents users from opening their albums. The developers plan to distribute a fixed version of the app through the system's app store.

The updates are gradually rolling out to supported devices through the system settings. Devices running version 24.04-2.1 will receive 24.04-2.2, while those running 24.04-1.5 will receive 24.04-1.6. Users moving from the older series to version 24.04-2.2 will need to install version 24.04-1.6 first.
