Nintendo Latin America VP Bill van Zyll confirmed that Nintendo has no plans to drop physical game titles for the Nintendo Switch 2, maintaining a flexible approach to hardware capabilities and consumer choice.

According to him, the company is taking a neutral stance, allowing players to freely choose between physical and digital games. The current console supports both options, although some titles are released in physical packaging that contains a code card instead of a traditional cartridge.

The attitude of other companies

This position comes at a time when the competition is moving differently. Sony plans to stop selling physical games for the PlayStation 5 and its future consoles in January 2028, a decision that has caused strong reactions and a boycott of the company's services.

For its part, Microsoft has yet to announce its plans for whether the next Xbox consoles will feature a disc slot, with CEO Asha Sharma stating that the company is not sharing further details about Project Helix.

Despite assurances about the Switch 2, the Nintendo executive's statements concern exclusively the current device, leaving open the possibility of a future console that will operate exclusively digitally.
