Noctalia software releases new update with important security fixes

Noctalia 5.4.1 addresses lock-screen authentication bypasses by rejecting unauthorized D-Bus signals, hardens idle locking via direct logind state reads, and fixes command injection vectors in wallpaper handling while encrypting stored notification history.

Security fixes

The new version addresses issues with the lock screen, preventing bypassing the lock via fake messages from unauthorized applications. At the same time, it strengthens the auto-lock mechanism, reading the inactivity status directly from the central system and not from external messages that could be tampered with.

Additionally, an issue was fixed that allowed unwanted commands to be executed via specially formatted file names in wallpapers when they contained characters such as quotes.

Notification encryption and new features

Noctalia now protects stored notification histories and image previews by encrypting the data, while also featuring automatic migration of older files to the new format.
